SJC Chamber opposes FDEP state park development plans

The St. Johns County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors on Wednesday voted to oppose the Florida Department of Environmental Protection's proposed plans to build recreational spaces and lodging in Anastasia State Park in St. Augustine.

FDEP's proposed changes include a 350-room lodge, pickleball courts and a disc golf course.

“Anastasia State Park is a vital part of our community. While the chamber supports enhancing our state parks and fostering economic development in St. Johns County, this project would compromise the pristine beauty of Anastasia State Park, which attracts both residents and visitors,” said Isabelle Renault, president and CEO of the St. Johns County Chamber of Commerce. “In addition, such a development would deviate significantly from the intended purpose of public parks.”

The chamber is collaborating with community partners and state and local government officials to oppose the proposed changes and advocate for the community.

The chamber encourages community participation at the upcoming FDEP meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 27, 3-4 p.m. at First Coast Technical College Character Counts Conference Center.
