Tourism & Hospitality Council: Arts & Culture update

Thursday, April 16, 2026 (8:30 AM - 9:30 AM) (EDT)

Description

Join us for the Tourism and Hospitality Council’s April meeting, featuring updates on important cultural and community initiatives. Hear the latest on the Florida Black History Museum from the recent legislative session, gain insights on the Lincolnville Museum renovations from Gayle Phillips, Executive Director of the Lincolnville Museum, and learn about St. Johns County’s Public Art and Arts & Culture Plans from Jeff Potts, Executive Director of the St. Johns Cultural Council.

Gayle Phillips is the Executive Director of the Lincolnville Museum and Cultural Center in St. Augustine. She has more than a decade of experience in St. Johns County, holds a journalism degree from the University of Florida, and has served on several historic and cultural boards.

She has led the museum since 2018 and will share updates on renovations at the Lincolnville Museum, 100 years after the building first served as St. Johns County’s high school for Black students.

Mr. Potts brings over 25 years of professional experience in community and business development, nonprofit administration, tourism and events, and marketing communications. In Wisconsin and Virginia, Potts brought historic theatre buildings back to life while simultaneously building the organization’s infrastructure and programming models. He served as first managing director for GableStage in Coral Gables, Florida, and is also a former entertainment journalist, tourism marketing director, and executive director of a Habitat for Humanity affiliate, and earned an Executive MBA and an undergraduate communications degree from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

Jeff’s varied experience and passion for creative placemaking and community development align with the Cultural Council’s mission and goals.
