History in the Shadow of the Tower: The Making of St. Augustine's Artist Community
Thursday, September 18, 2025 (6:30 PM - 8:00 PM) (EDT)
Description
In celebration of the 150th Anniversary of the Lighthouse tower, the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum presents a lecture series titled History in the Shadow of the Tower. Our last lecture details how St. Augustine developed a vast artist community even before Henry Flagler's hotels opened in the city. Dr. Keri Watson, Art History professor at the University of Central Florida, will be presenting an engaging history of Florida’s landscape painters, including James Audubon and the Florida Highwaymen, along with many others. Funding for this program was provided through a grant from Florida Humanities with funds from the National Endowment for the Humanities. Any views, findings, conclusions or recommendations expressed in this program do not necessarily represent those of Florida Humanities or the National Endowment for the Humanities.
